MAUI, Hawaii -- Oregon and Georgetown keep facing off in far-away places. The fourth-ranked Ducks will meet the Hoyas in the first round of the Maui Invitational on Monday. Three years ago, Oregon opened the season with an 82-75 win over Georgetown in South Korea. We were able to play Georgetown three years ago and we had a tough game with them, Ducks coach Dana Altman said. We know they are an awfully good team with a lot of players coming back and we have a good core group coming back.Oregon is one of three ranked teams in the field along with No. 5 North Carolina and No. 9 Wisconsin. The Ducks and Badgers would face off in the semifinals if both advance out of the first round while the Tar Heels could await Oregon or Wisconsin in the title game. You look at the field and the exciting thing about it is a lot of teams have a lot of experience, Altman said. There are good programs and good coaches. North Carolina is coming off being in the national championship and Wisconsin was in the Sweet 16 and we had a nice year. It should be a competitive field.Oregon has its highest ranking in school history after reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season, but the Ducks will likely fall when the new polls come out Monday following a 66-49 loss at Baylor on Tuesday.Sometimes it is harder to maintain a certain level of success than achieve it, so we definitely have some obstacles to overcome to get guys in the right frame of mind to compete, Altman said. This tournament will do that because game in and game out there will be great competition. The Ducks hope to have all-conference junior forward Dillon Brooks back to face the Hoyas after he missed the first three games of the season following foot surgery. The 6-foot-7 Brooks, who averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 rebounds last year, has been going through workouts with the team and could be medically cleared in time for the trip to Maui.Hes a big part of our team, but who knows when hes going to be back, Altman said. I dont. The doctors havent told me. I know hes anxious to get back but until they release him we have to play without him.It is unlikely Brooks will start when he first returns because he will be on a limited schedule. We will play him on the exact schedule the doctor gives us, Altman said. We are not going to be conservative or push the envelope, we will do exactly what the doctors say.Oregon opened the season with a 91-77 win over Army before losing at Baylor. The Ducks bounced back with a 76-54 win over Valparaiso on Thursday. With Brooks on the bench, center Chris Boucher leads Oregon in scoring at 17 points per game, followed by guard Tyler Dorsey at 12.7. Junior forward Jordan Bell is averaging 12.3 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds.Georgetown is 1-2 after back-to-back losses against Maryland and Arkansas State. Guards L.J. Peak and Rodney Pryor each lead the team with 17.7 points per game while center Jessie Govan is averaging 14.3. Scottie Upshall Jersey. Hargreaves began his career in 2008 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and has played with the Edmonton Eskimos and last season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Alex Petrovic Jersey. PAUL, Minn. http://www.hockeypanthersofficialonline.com/. With the short-handed Warriors needing help from someone -- anyone -- to stop a three-game skid, ONeal returned from right knee and groin injuries that had sidelined him for four games and put up season highs with 18 points and eight rebounds. It was just enough to help lift Golden State to a 102-101 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. Reto Berra Panthers Jersey. There are surprises among the Vezina candidates, but most of the others are standard top-tier performers, even if the two Hart Trophy runners-ups have never been quite as good as they have been through the first half of the season. Henrik Borgstrom Jersey. Rinne played two periods in his first game since left hip surgery in early May. Gabriel Bourque scored 3:07 into the second period and Austin Watson tallied 5:15 later for Nashville. ATHENS, Ga. -- Coach Steve Wojciechowski challenged Jajaun Johnson at halftime to stop playing timidly and give Marquette a better effort.I got a little mad, and when I get mad I play better, Johnson said. When he got on me, it just clicked.Freshman Sam Hauser scored a career-high 19 points, Johnson added 16 points and 10 rebounds and Marquette had little trouble beating Georgia 89-79 on Sunday.Markus Howard finished with 15 points as the Golden Eagles (6-2) won their fourth straight game.Yante Maten had 24 points and J.J. Frazier 20 for Georgia (5-3).During a 3-minute, 30-second stretch early in the second half, Johnson hit a 3, had three steals, a tip-in, a dunk, hit two free throws and grabbed a rebound. When he plays with the kind of effort and energy that he did at the start of the second half, he can impact the game in a lot of ways, Wojciechowski said. That was another sign of it to start the second half. He really was all over the place, which was good to see.Stegeman Coliseum, which seats 10,523, was about two-thirds full, a decent-sized crowd for a building thats rarely charged with atmosphere in December.Down by 16 with 14:27 remaining, the Bulldogs made a run to get excited the crowd with seven minutes to go, cutting the lead to two on William Jacksons 3 and two free throws. But Howard hit a 3 at the 4:29 mark put Marquette up by 13 and Georgia never threatened again.Defense, defense, Johnson said. They all came from steals. We knew they were going to make a run. We just had to stay together when it got tough.Marquette hit its first six 3s and eight of its first nine as Duane Wilson made it 25-15 with 11 minutes left in the first half to give the Golden Eagles their first double-digit lead.Georgia cut the lead to three before intermission, but coach Mark Fox called time out at the 16:43 mark of the second with the GGolden Eagles back again leading by 10.ddddddddddddHowards 3 with 15:47 remaining made Marquette 11 of 15 beyond the arc and pushed the lead to 14.Our big lineup couldnt cover them, so we played small most of the day in an effort to try to slow the 3-point shooting, which I dont think we really ever did, Fox said. We didnt do the dirty work to win.BIG PICTUREMarquette: Won despite a rare unproductive game from G Haanif Cheatham, the Golden Eagles third-leading scorer and named last season to the Big East Conferences all-freshman team. Making his 41st straight start in 41 career games, Cheatham missed six of his first eight shots (1 for 7) and picked up his fourth foul with 16:06 remaining. He finished with two points in 25 minutes.Hes played really well for us, Wojciechowski said. That happens over the course of the season. Other guys stepped up, which was great.Georgia: Had its 24th consecutive game in double-digit scoring from Maten, but the Bulldogs are too reliant for him and Frazier on offense. Nobody else averages close to double digits. Fox has yet to find a way to replace the productivity of departed seniors Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines, who combined to average 24.1 points last season. The Bulldogs are looking for other players to step up if theyre going to return to the NCAA Tournament after missing out last season. Poor defense isnt helping either. We have some serious areas to work on, Fox said. Kenny Gaines and Charles Mann were terrific defenders. We havent replaced the defense that walked out of here with a degree. Thats disappointing to lose a game because you dont defend like we need to.UP NEXTMarquette: Host to Fresno State on Tuesday.Georgia: Host to Louisiana-Lafayette on Dec. 14.
