EUGENE, Ore. -- Most guys clear 10 hurdles. Devon Allen took an extra leap. The University of Oregon receiver and hurdler for the Ducks track team became a U.S. Olympian on Saturday.Allen won the 110-meter hurdles at trials and celebrated by racing over to the seats and jumping into the stands to hug his family. It was a really exciting moment for me, said Allen, who became the first man to win the 110 hurdles at trials and NCAA championships since 1956. Its something I wanted to share with my family. Im glad they could be here.Allen won in a school-record time of 13.03 seconds, holding off runner-up Ronnie Ash and Jeff Porter. The rest of the results were as surprising as the three qualifiers for Rio.Defending Olympic champion Aries Merritt finished fourth, falling just short of making the team after a kidney transplant. Jason Richardson, 2012 Olympic silver medalist, was fifth, and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist David Oliver withdrew just before the final with a tweaked left hamstring. It seemed like age didnt give you the experience factor that youre used to, the 30-year-old Richardson said. It seemed like it was more of a handicap. Tried to will myself to this last Olympics.Merritt won a bronze medal at the 2015 world championships in Beijing on a kidney that was working at 10 percent capacity. After receiving a new one from his sister in September and going through another surgery because of complications in October, he hurt his groin five weeks ago and wasnt in top form. For me to be where I am is a miracle, said Merritt, the world-record holder in the event. Its a pity that Im not going to the Games. I know in six weeks times Ill be in much better shape and probably pull off something similar as I did in Beijing. However, thats not the case.Still, his doctor said what Merritt pulled off is a medical marvel. To run so quick after the transplant was amazing. To run that quick and almost make the team? Indescribable.Every time Aries does something else, somehow gets to the next round, is one more thing to stand back and just say, `Wow, said Dr. Les Thomas, who treated Merritt at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona and was on hand for the trials. Just for him to be here is unbelievable.Oliver was understandably disappointed, issuing a statement after the race: Devastated I couldnt run the final, hurt left hammy in the semi, but thats part of the game. Hats off to the great guys were sending!Indeed, in Oregon, where the fans love track as much as football, the days final race was all about the Ducks. The cheers by the Hayward Field crowd were so loud that Allen almost felt like he was playing down the road at Autzen Stadium. Its the sort of roar reserved for football games.Cant hear yourself talk, Allen said. After the race, he tossed T-shirts into the stands that had a picture of Allen on the front and the words Team Allen on the back.Could be a valuable souvenir someday, if the Olympics turn out as good as the trials.More than likely, Allen will miss the start of football camp to make the trip to Rio. He had nine catches for 94 yards last season as he eased back into action after tearing a ligament in his right knee during the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2015.Asked if hes now a hurdler who plays football or the other way around, he just laughed.Im just an athlete who likes to play football and run track, Allen said. Keep doing that while I can. James Conner Jersey. JOHNS, N. T. J. Watt Youth Jersey. Sgt. NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The last time the Tennessee Titans beat the Chargers in San Diego the franchise was located in another city and with a different nickname. During the stretch, the Titans have played home games in three different cities and are on their fifth coach.Yes, its been a very long time. The skid itself is just six games but dates back to Sept. 30, 1990, when Jack Pardee and the then-Houston Oilers got a victory. The Titans finally ended a nine-game skid overall to the Chargers the last time these teams met in 2013 , and now they head back to California on Sunday looking to end their other drought. Not that any of the current coaches and players put much stock into that history.Titans coach Mike Mularkey believes the only relevant statistic from his perspective is ending this skid.Id like to make another change, Mularkey said when asked about the losing streak.Mularkey is their fifth head coach since Pardees Oilers won 17-7 in San Diego. Pardee lost his next trip to San Diego, while Jeff Fisher -- now with the Los Angeles Rams -- lost all four of his visits including a wild-card playoff game in January 2008. Mike Munchaks squad was blown out 38-10 in 2012.Chargers coach Mike McCoy agrees with Mularkey -- the past has no impact on Sundays game.Every years different, McCoy said Wednesday. It doesnt matter if you play a team two weeks ago or this week, you have to go out and play your best week in and week out.The Titans hired a new general manager in January in Jon Robinson along with Mularkey, who took over Nov. 3 last season when Ken Whisenhunt was fired after a 1-6 start . Whisenhunt now is the Chargers offensive coordinator, while Robinson added 23 new players to the Tennessee roster going into this season.Linebacker Derrick Morgan this team is complletely separate from all those other teams.ddddddddddddIts a new team, new players, new coaches, Morgan said. Were trying to make our own identity. These Titans (4-4) have won three of their last four to top their win total from all of last season. One more win matches their victory total for the past two seasons combined, and they are one game back of division leader Houston in the AFC South. But they are visiting the Chargers (3-5) where they are 5-17-1 all-time and a quarterback in Phillip Rivers who has been their starter for the past 11 seasons. Defensive lineman Jurrell Casey blamed Rivers for dominating the Tennessee defense in the Titans last visit to San Diego.Mularkey is taking the Titans out to California on Friday, a day earlier than usual road games. Mularkey said he has traveled teams both on Friday and Saturday before a Sunday game to mixed success. This time, its just a change-up in the Titans routine. The Titans also will get the time change with clocks being set back an hour Sunday morning. As a native of Long Beach, California, Casey says he doesnt believe in changes in time zones having any effect on a team. You go out there, you get a days rest, you get up and you get to go play a game of football, Casey said. I dont really think the time zone or anything makes a difference.Game notes Titans RB DeMarco Murray (toe) was limited along with LB Aaron Wallace (shoulder). Mularkey said he doesnt think the toe will prevent Murray from playing Sunday. ... LG Quinton Spain (right knee) did not practice.---AP NFL website: and Teresa M.
